When the complaints about inadequate light levels began to mount at this small but busy truck service facility in Granite City IL, the management complained to corporate, and corporate relied on their trusted existing relationship with Aelux to solve the problem fast.

CHALLENGE

In addition to wasting substantial amounts of energy, the older 400w HID fixtures found in this facility get dimmer over time further reducing light levels, negatively effecting productivity, and working conditions. The effect of inadequate light was being felt through delays, mistakes, and causing potential safety issues. With only 10 truck bays servicing an entire long haul fleet, this very busy facility needed a quick installation with minimal to no interruption of day to day operations.

SOLUTION

Within 30 days from Aelux’s initial no cost analysis; the 400w metal halides were replaced with Westinghouse 6 lamp T8 high bay fixtures that increased light levels from an average of 13-foot candles, to an average of 28-foot candles. Aelux was able to perform the installation during business hours, with little to no work interruptions, and not only dramatically increased the light levels but at a 66% energy cost reduction. Aelux turnkey service includes third party certification for tax deductions under the 2005 Energy Policy Act (EPACT) and utility rebate administration. In this case, the Ameren Utility incentive and EPACT deduction comprise over 50% of the project cost affecting an 11-month Return on Investment (ROI). What started as a light level problem has quickly resulted in increased productivity, happy employees, dramatic cost savings, and a reduction in overall carbon footprint for this hauling and logistics customer.
